Degree Course: Biomedical Laboratory techniques

Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione
I laureati in Tecniche di laboratorio biomedico avranno acquisito: le basi scientifiche e la preparazione teorico-pratica necessarie per essere abilitati all'esercizio della professione di Tecnico sanitario di laboratorio biomedico; la metodologia e cultura necessarie per la pratica della formazione permanente; un livello di autonomia professionale, decisionale ed operativa tale da garantire la padronanza di tutte le necessarie competenze e la loro immediata spendibilità nell'ambiente di lavoro.
Particolare attenzione sarà prestata alle condizioni di attività professionali anche con strumenti meno complessi, considerata la peculiarità delle aree nelle quali si troveranno non di rado a fornire la propria opera, caratterizzate da numerose emergenze, anche belliche, con scarsa densità di personale sanitario e di materiali in linea con gli standard occidentali più avanzati.
Questi risultati saranno conseguiti con la frequenza obbligatoria a lezioni, attività seminariali, esercitazioni, tirocini e corsi opzionali.
La valutazione di tali conoscenze e delle capacità di comprensione sarà attuata attraverso esami, verifiche in itinere e prove di idoneità sia per gli insegnamenti teorici che per i tirocini, oltre che per la prova finale.Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione
I laureati in Tecniche di laboratorio biomedico saranno in grado di: scegliere e utilizzare le metodologie e la strumentazione di laboratorio per l'acquisizione di dati clinici e sperimentali; provvedere alla loro analisi, validazione e interpretazione; discutere i risultati ottenuti, proporre soluzioni per l'ottimizzazione delle metodologie e documentare le procedure impiegate; svolgere le attività nel pieno rispetto delle norme di sicurezza per l'uso di sostanze, apparecchi e procedure.
Strumenti fondamentali per il raggiungimento di tali obiettivi saranno tirocinio, attività di laboratorio, ricerca bibliografica e utilizzo di testi.
La valutazione di queste abilità avverrà con verifiche del tirocinio, esami e prova finale.Autonomia di giudizio

L'autonomia di giudizio dei laureati si esprimerà con la capacità di valutare autonomamente le criticità legate alle analisi chimico cliniche e sperimentali svolte e di scegliere metodologie, strategie e apparecchiature ottimali per i risultati attesi, anche grazie alla revisione critica delle informazioni reperite con ricerche bibliografiche.
La maturazione di tali capacità avverrà e sarà verificata durante i tirocini, nei quali l'incontro con persone, professionalità, strutture e metodologie diverse faciliterà lo sviluppo di un pensiero critico autonomo.
Uguale rilevanza assumeranno la partecipazione attiva alle lezioni, la preparazione degli esami e della prova finale, ulteriori momenti di maturazione e di verifica.
Abilità comunicative

I laureati saranno capaci di comunicare idee, informazioni, problemi e soluzioni di tipo scientifico in forma orale o scritta nel contesto professionale.
Saranno in grado di interagire con le altre persone per condurre attività di équipe, di redigere relazioni e presentazioni anche con l'ausilio di mezzi multimediali, di contribuire alla formazione e all'aggiornamento di altro personale.
Queste abilità saranno sviluppate grazie alla frequenza di una pluralità di laboratori, nella preparazione degli esami tra cui, in particolare, quello del corso di scienze umane.
Tutte le abilità saranno supportate dalle conoscenze di tipo informatico acquisite nei corsi specifici.
La verifica avverrà tramite gli esami, anche di tirocinio, e la prova finale.
Capacità di apprendimento

I laureati acquisiranno le capacità di apprendimento e le competenze tali da consentire il proseguimento degli studi sia nei corsi di laurea specialistica, che in corsi di aggiornamento e approfondimento, con un alto grado di autonomia.
Saranno in grado di aggiornare in modo autonomo le proprie competenze rispetto alle innovazioni tecnologiche e scientifiche nell'ottica dell'attività lavorativa.
Questa capacità saranno sviluppate e verificate con la preparazione degli esami, con la frequenza del tirocinio, nel quale viene coniugata la teoria con la pratica di laboratorio, con l'uso critico della bibliografia anche per la preparazione della prova finale.
Requisiti di ammissione
Possono essere ammessi al Corso di laurea i candidati che siano in possesso di diploma di scuola secondaria superiore o di altro titolo di studio conseguito all’estero riconosciuto idoneo dalla normativa vigente.
La prova di ammissione è predisposta annualmente dall’Ateneo secondo le modalità e la tempistica indicate dagli organi competenti nel rispetto delle normative vigenti.
E' altresì richiesto il possesso o l'acquisizione di un'adeguata preparazione iniziale.
I regolamenti didattici dei corsi di laurea definiscono le conoscenze richieste per l’accesso e ne determinano le modalità di verifica.
Se dalla verifica non risulta il possesso di un livello sufficiente di preparazione, possono essere indicati specifici obblighi formativi aggiuntivi da soddisfare nel primo anno di corso attraverso l’istituzione di attività formative integrative.
Le attività formative propedeutiche ed integrative possono essere svolte anche in collaborazione con istituti di istruzione secondaria o con altri enti pubblici o privati, sulla base di apposite convenzioni.
Prova finale
L'Esame finale del Corso di Laurea ha valore di Esame di Stato abilitante all'esercizio della professione e si compone di:

Una prova pratica nel corso della quale lo studente deve dimostrare di aver acquisito le conoscenze e abilità teorico-pratiche e tecnico-operative proprie dello specifico profilo professionale;
c.
Redazione di un elaborato di una tesi e sua dissertazione.
Si svolge nei periodi e nei modi prescritti da apposito decreto del Ministero della Università e della Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica di concerto con il Ministero della Salute.
A determinare il voto di laurea, espresso in centodecimi, contribuiscono i seguenti parametri:
a) la media dei voti conseguiti negli esami curriculari espressa in centodecimi,
b) i punti attribuiti dalla Commissione dell'esame finale in sede di discussione (massimo 5 punti),
c) il punteggio conseguito nella prova pratica (massimo 6 punti).
La lode può essere attribuita per parere unanime della Commissione ai Candidati che conseguono il punteggio finale di 110/110.
I docenti relatori di tesi sono professori di prima o seconda fascia o ricercatori o professori a contratto.
Le attività formative per la preparazione della prova finale si svolgeranno nelle strutture indicate in merito alle attività professionalizzanti.Orientamento in ingresso
Sarà istituita una Commissione d'Ateneo per l'Orientamento per realizzare una politica generale di orientamento pre-universitario fondata sul rapporto diretto dell'Ateneo con i referenti delle strutture dei Paesi in Via di sviluppo che veicoleranno le candidature per analizzare congiuntamente criteri ed iniziative che riducano le difficoltà nelle scelte degli studenti nell'adattamento allo studio universitario in Italia.

Il Corso preparerà Tecnici di laboratorio biomedico, operatori delle professioni sanitarie dell'area tecnico-diagnostica che svolgono con autonomia professionale, le procedure tecniche necessarie all'esecuzione di metodiche diagnostiche su materiali biologici o sulla persona, ovvero attività tecnico-assistenziale, in attuazione di quanto previsto nei regolamenti concernenti l'individuazione delle figure e dei relativi profili professionali definiti con decreto del Ministro della Sanità.
I laureati Tecnici di laboratorio biomedico sono dotati di un'adeguata preparazione nelle discipline di base, tale da consentire loro la migliore comprensione dei più rilevanti elementi che sono alla base dei processi patologici che si sviluppano in età evolutiva, adulta e geriatrica, sui quali si focalizza il loro intervento diagnostico pertanto, dispiegabile in tutte le aree territoriali in cui si focalizza l'attenzione della Saint camillus International University of Health Sciences.
Il raggiungimento delle competenze professionali si attua attraverso una formazione teorica e pratica che includa anche l'acquisizione di competenze comportamentali e che venga conseguita nel contesto lavorativo specifico del profilo, così da garantire, al termine del percorso formativo, la piena padronanza di tutte le necessarie competenze e la loro immediata spendibilità nell'ambiente di lavoro.
Particolare rilievo, come parte integrante e qualificante della formazione professionale, riveste l'attività formativa pratica e di tirocinio clinico, svolta con la supervisione e la guida di tutori professionali appositamente assegnati, coordinata da un docente appartenente al più elevato livello formativo previsto per ciascun profilo professionale e corrispondente alle norme definite a livello europeo ove esistenti.
I laureati Tecnici di laboratorio biomedico, devono altresi in alcune circostanze far fronte alle carenze delle figure professionali superiori corrispondenti nel quadro dell'impostazione della logica inaugurata dal 2006 dall'OMS (WHO)in collaborazione con l'OGAC (Office of the United States Global AIDS Coordinator) che ha lanciato il “Task Shifting Project”.
In pratica, il Progetto, constatata l'impossibilità di dare una ragionevole risposta in tempi accettabili all'endemica carenza di operatori sanitari a tutti i livelli, ha ipotizzato che un certo numero di attività, solitamente espletate da professionisti più qualificati, possa essere appannaggio di operatori meno specializzati.
La “delega delle competenze” può fare un uso più efficiente delle risorse umane attualmente disponibili.
Ad esempio, quando i biologi o i patologi scarseggiano, un tecnico di laboratorio bio-chimico qualificato -opportunamente preparato- può operare efficacemente in ambiti che nei Paesi occidentali sono presidiati solo dai medici specialisti.

tramite il sistema informativo di ateneo, del piano di completamento o del piano di studio individuale,
secondo quanto stabilito dal regolamento didattico del corso di studio.

The Medical Statistics course aims to provide students with the basic notions of physics, statistics and computer science, the purpose of which is teaching the logic of statistical thinking and its application in real practice. The presentation of the topics will be oriented to concrete problems of analysis and research, starting from schematic examples and then confronting real situations taken from the medical literature. The aim of the integrated course of Mathematical, Physical and Computer Science (Medical Physics, Medical Statistics and Computer Science) is to provide students with the knowledge on the foundations of applied physics necessary for the performance of their future activity, the principles of information technology and the principles of physical, applied to their professional profile. In particular, the understanding of the physical principles underlying medical physics and the functioning of medical instrumentation will be addressed.
At the end of the course, students will know the fundamental concepts of application of the scientific method to the study of biomedical phenomena (choice and measurement of parameters, evaluation of errors), they will be able to describe the physical phenomena of complex systems using appropriate mathematical tools, they will know the scientific bases of medical procedures and the operating principles of the equipment commonly used for diagnostics and therapy, as well as to provide the student with the skills necessary to understand the key role that Information Technology (IT) plays for today's society and, in in particular, within the technical-health professions.

The Histology module aims to provide student with the skills necessary for the full understanding of the most important tissues of the human organism. The student must be able to acquire a correct terminology and develop skills of interpretation and application that, the graduate in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques, will have to use in the planning and management of work activities.
The Biology module aims at providing the students with the morphological and functional organization of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, focusing on both the descriptive aspects and the basic notions of biochemistry and cellular physiology required to understand the functions of the cell as a basic unit of living organisms. The objective of the course is the learning of the constructive logic of the biological structures at the different levels of organization of living matter, the principles that govern the functioning of the different biological systems, the learning of the experimental method and its applications to the study of biological phenomena. Students will learn the unitary mechanisms that regulate cellular activities, gene expression and genetic material transmission.
The Anatomy module provides the student with the anatomical knowledge from a basic macroscopic point of view to understand the general organization of the human body. The teaching objectives are the acquisition of the morphological knowledge and the topographic organization of the single systems, organs and apparatuses in order to acquire the basic notions for the subsequent integrated courses
The aim of the course of Medical Genetics is to provide to students the knowledge on the main notions on inheritance of monogenic, chromosomal and multifactorial diseases. At the end of the course the student will be able to distinguish the main classes of genetic diseases and to recognize the modes of transmission of hereditary diseases. The student will acquire knowledge of the main methods of analysis useful for the diagnosis of these pathologies.

The aim of the integrated teaching of BIOCHEMISTRY, PHYSIOLOGY AND MICROBIOLOGY is to provide students with the fundamental knowledge relating to the structure of the macromolecules necessary for the functioning and regulation of living organisms and their transformation processes. Put the student in a position to understand the basics of cellular metabolism and the variations induced by exercise. Clinical biochemistry, clinical molecular biology and applied statistics

For the course of Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology, knowledge of traditional and innovative methodologies used in the laboratory for the determination of different proteins in the clinical biochemistry laboratory are essential objectives. These objectives will be achieved through lectures and with interactive teaching activities, associated with facilitating learning and improving the ability to face and solve the main diagnostic questions of the clinical biochemistry laboratory. The course aims to provide the student with the skills necessary to understand the role played by information systems and database management systems, illustrating the development process. It is an essential goal of the Statistics course for Experimental research to learn the knowledge of the essential elements for the interpretation of the accuracy and predictive values of a diagnostic test. This course will also deal with issues relating to the comparison of tests and the fundamental aspects of study designs for biomedical research for diagnostics. These objectives will be achieved through lectures and practical examples illustrating the methodology of some scientific studies published in the medical literature. Knowledge of the methods for selecting and managing independently the analytical processes for the various analysis techniques, applying laboratory safety principles and biomedical laboratory activities as an entity represent internal health system. The main educational objectives of the clinical biochemistry course are acquired by the student of basic knowledge on the clinical-diagnostic significance of some of the laboratory tests that control the "chemical-clinical profile". The student will be able (i) to know the basic macroscopic and optical microscopic anatomical lesions of the main pathologies of the various apparatus and (ii) to understand the role of histological, immunohistochemical and molecular biology investigations in the anatomopathological diagnostic process both in the care diagnostic workflow and in the realization and drafting of basic and applied research projects.
