Module: Medical sciences and techniques
(objectives)
The course aims to train students in an exhaustive knowledge of the different acquisition protocols of anatomical districts treated during teaching. Furthermore, during the teaching hours, in-depth studies are planned dedicated to the various control and safety procedures required to operate in RM. Understanding of NMR phenomenon; knowledge of the components of a MR scanner (resistive, permanent, conventional superconductive, MgB2 superconductive); understanding of the mechanisms of signal generation (RF-pulses classification), of image formation (significance of gradient pulse “sequence”) and of the meaning of the main scan parameters (echo time, repetition time, flip angle, bandwidth, acquisition matrix, Echo-Train Length etc…); familiarity with all conventional sequence groups (SE, RARE-SE, GRE, and their 2D- and 3D- derivatives); comprehension of the meaning of different signal “weighting” (T1, T2, Proton Density, Flow, Velocity and Acceleration, Water Mobility, Susceptibility…); examples of typical MR images.
