Module: Obstetrical-gynecological nursing sciences

At the end of this course, students will be able to describe midwifery care for the low-risk birth, post-partum and puerperium and apply the gained knowledge in clinical practice. Moreover, they will acquire adequate knowledge on the organization and on the appropriate procedures for the safe care in the obstetric-gynecological operating room.
The teaching's aim is to acquire the appropriate Midwifery's theoretical and practical knowledge, useful for the recognition and satisfaction of woman, newborn, couple's needs. The student will understand midwife's interventions through the study of practices and professional skills. The skills acquired will allow the student to recognize the areas of self competence and responsibility, and those of the other health professionals. The student will be able to solve the basic problems of Midwifery care through the application of suitable techniques and identification of needs, for the formulation of the most appropriate treatment plan.
By the end of this course learners will be able to describe: • Scope of perioperative midwifery practice • Management of epidural analgesia and spinal anaesthesia • Clinical Risk evaluation process and responibilities of the perioperative midwife • Multidisciplinary team communication
