(objectives)
Knowledge of the purposes of the health service and of the organizational models at international, national and local level are educational objectives. Knowledge of the basic dynamics that regulate the functioning of the markets, with particular reference to the health services sector, are essential objectives. Students will have to acquire knowledge of the determinants underlying the design and implementation of economic policies and the relationships between health and economic growth. Particular attention will be paid to the study of market failures and state intervention to reduce social costs resulting from these imperfections. Finally, the topic of cost benefit analysis will be discussed for the evaluation of public policies with particular reference to health planning. Introduce the student to the knowledge of business economics with reference to the public and private sector by inserting some thematic focus on health organizations

Module: General and applied hygiene
(objectives)
Learning objective of the teaching is the knowledge of the aims of the health system and organizational models at international, national and local level. Main objectives include knowledge of the general principles of hygiene and public health, and of health promotion. These objectives, in turn, include knowledge of the specific ways of transmission of infections; the epidemiological chain; the main healthcare associate d infections; roles and characteristics of the epidemiological studies; data of the epidemiological studies on healthcare associated infections; the concepts of cleaning, sanitation, disinfection, antisepsis and sterilization; infection control measures in the community and healthcare settings especially in the imaging diagnostic facilities; the concepts of prophylaxis. These objectives will be achieved through lectures/lessons, and with all the other tools capable of facilitating learning and the problem solving of the main aspects of the prevention and control of infection within applied hygiene.

Introduction: concepts of health, hygiene and public health. General applied hygiene and epidemiological tools: health of different populations and its determinants, in the community and healthcare settings. Descriptive epidemiology in general applied hygiene: prevalence and incidence studies, the concept of risk/hazard, and cause-effect relationship. Hygiene applied to the epidemiology of infectious diseases: general concepts, epidemiological models of infectious diseases. Concepts of epidemic and endemic. Sources of infection, entry and elimination routes of microroganisms, epidemiological chain and transmission of infections. Principles of prevention and prophylaxis: primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Prevention of infectious diseases: concepts of environmental hygiene, disinfection, antisepsis, sterilization, biological risk in the healthcare settings and ways of prevention.

Module: Economics Politics
(objectives)
The main learning objective is the knowledge of the principal characteristics and determinants of the markets functionings. Particular focus will be devoted to the study of the healthcare sector. Students are expected to learn how an economic policy is designed and implemented with particular regard to the understanding of the relationships between health and economic growth. Market failures will be considered as the main rationale to understand the role of governmental authorities in order to reduce social costs deriving from externalities, moral hazard, adverse selection and, in general, asymmetric information. Finally, students will learn the use of economic analysis and cost -benefit approach to evaluate public policies with particular focus to healthcare.
