The course aims: - to describe the concept of risk in childbirth - to describe the antenatal care for low-risk pregnancies - to describe the legislation and policies on some main topics about childbearing, pregnancy, and maternity/paternity
The course's aim is to acquire the appropriate Midwifery's theoretical and practical knowledge, useful for the recognition and satisfaction of woman, newborn, couple's needs. The student will understand midwife's interventions through the study of practices and professional skills. The skills acquired will allow the student to recognize the areas of self competence and responsibility, and those of the other health professionals. The student will be able to solve the basic problems of Midwifery care through the application of suitable techniques and identification of needs, for the formulation of the most appropriate treatment plan.

1. Midwifery care for the newborn in the delivery room: mother-child bonding, clearing airway, maintenance of body temperature, timing of cord clamping, APGAR score, newborn's identification, early breastfeeding, neonatal prophylaxis: prevention of vitamin K deficiency haemorrhage and neonatal ophthalmia, baby's first bath, newborn measurements.
2. The newborn in his first days of life: umbilical cord care, bath, physiological weight loss in the breastfed neonate, newborn hygiene, neonatal jaundice, baby's first days: bowel movements and urination.
3. The midwife during postpartum and puerperium: the immediate 2 hours after childbirth and the first 6-8 weeks after birth in low-risk pregnancies and eutocic deliveries.
4. Recommendations for the prevention and treatment of Haemolytic Disease of the Foetus and Newborn (HDFN), in particular that one due to RhD incompatibility: the anti-D immunoglobulin prophylaxis.
5. Contraceptive methods: summary, description, appropriate way of use. - Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM) - Emergency contraception (EC)
6. Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD): summary, diagnosis and tests, prevention and risk factors, treatments and therapies, statistics and research.

Anonymous birth. Pregnancy loss, stillbirth, and the sudden infant death syndrome. PREVENTION OF DISEASES IN GYNECOLOGY. Cervical cancer screening, urinary tract infections, vaginitis.
